SOPHIA CARRARA

Sophia Carrara originally studied photography and design as well as media studies, and works as a freelance photographer and artist. What began as a practical attempt to digitize analog negatives using a scanner quickly evolved into an experimental artistic practice focused on exploring process and materials.

Her work examines the relationship between technology and the human body. Using scanners, light, and movement, she creates fluid, organic-looking images that evoke natural elements like water while simultaneously revealing their digital origins through visible artifacts and distortions. Her artistic process is characterized by repetition, timing, and a conscious relinquishing of control. By physically responding to the rhythm of the scanner, the work acquires a performative, time-based quality.
